Mayu Appassimento Gran Reserva Carmenère 2020, Elqui Valley D.O., Chile: From the Elqui Valley wine region, Mayu Gran Reserva 2020 is a great value Appassimento Carmenère. Grapes are left to hang an extra two months on the vine and are harvested in two tries; 40% in April with the balance of grapes harvested in June. The grapes lose about 35% of their moisture, become concentrated as in the Amarone process, but on the vine. The wine is matured in American oak barrels up to 10 months. Look for rich aromas of ripe black fruits, dried tobacco, with a juicy chocolate and coffee finish on the palate. Drink or hold to 2027. Poggio Civetta Governo All'uso 2020, Tuscany I.G.T., Italy: From Farnese, Poggio Civetta Governo All'uso 2020 is a smooth and generous, medium-plus-bodied red wine blend of 70% Sangiovese, 20% Merlot with the balance in Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah wine grapes. Produced in the governo method of partially drying a portion of the grapes for up to four weeks, and then pressing the dried grapes with the must added to the fermented wine. This allows the wine a second fermentation and imparts extra richness and a sensuous, full mouthfeel to the wine. The wine was aged in French oak barrels for five months. Château Grand Escalion 2020, Costières De Nîmes, Rhône A.P., France: Produced by Gabriel Meffre, Château Grand Escalion 2020 is an amazing value dry, full-bodied, velvety smooth and generous Syrah, Grenache and Carignan red wine blend with grapes sourced from the Costières de Nîmes wine region in the Rhône Valley. Rich with ripe dark cherry, baking spices and so savoury on the palate, it is difficult to believe this wine is only $14. Château Grand Escalion was built in 1884, and today the property is farmed using Terra Vitis sustainable agricultural practices.
