Deborah Podurgiel WSET IV Candidate rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Painted Rock’s Estate Grown Red Icon is a full-bodied 45% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Franc, 11% Malbec, 11% Petit Verdot and 9% Cabernet Sauvignon Bordeaux-style blend aged 18 months in 30% new oak. The wine is also unfiltered and deep red in the glass. On the nose, Painted Rock’s flagship red is ripe dark fruit, mocha-espresso, smoky and spicy with a hint of vanilla. With more of the same on the palate, the wine is dry, richly textured and very approachable now with smooth, ripe tannins and fresh acidity. Red Icon is a balanced, well-built and self-assured red. This vintage could easily hold in cellar another five years to show its best, but if pouring now, decant one hour prior to serving and pair with a garlic and herbed venison tenderloin or a grilled beef bavette.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
