Greg Hughes rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

An absolutely stellar Sagrantino di Montefalco. This is such a satisfying style that I hope takes off.
Sagrantino is an autocthonic (native) grape of the Umbria viticultural zone. It is THE best demonstration of tannic balance in a wine. These tannins are so high, but in perfect kilter with the fruit flavours ; what some call tannic ripeness can be the complex intertwining of how tannins factor into flavour contribution ( instead of a coarse mess of unpleasantness).
If you have a friend who is both into fine wines and is part of the current trend of big, brooding reds, show them this wine. It is not only a cool wine, it is a top producer from the area.
Saturated and dark. Ruby red towards the rim.
Explosively aromatic and concentrated. Definitely aerate gently in a decanter for a half to a full hour; tasting as you go. You will see those firm tea leaf and forest floor notes evolve and change into rosehip, juniper leaf, dried currant, mushroom, and prune.
The flavours are palate saturating, dark, and pure. It is showing a bit of age. Generally Sagrantino never hits the market before a few years maturity, because of its intensity. This one is showing some notes of maturity, but retains good acodoty and structure. It has a long way to go. It is absolutely delicious now.
Those fortunate enough to try older examples of Lungarotti's portfolio will be impressed at the value here for a serious cellar candidate. This is unique, delicious, and a good price. Editor's choice.
