Deborah Podurgiel WSET IV Candidate rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

It’s that kind of a day where the transition from summer to fall is becoming quite evident – a real nip at night in the BC interior at 7 degrees C, but you can still feel the warmth of the September sun and the smell of warming rarefied air. So, not being able to decide whether I’ll be barbequing today or sitting by the fireplace with a good book, I decided to try a new, red wine that covers both possibilities. From South Africa’s Paarl region, I opted for Douglas Green, Rib Shack Red. The wine is deep ruby Pinotage/Shiraz blend and though that sounds like it may need half a bison to tame it, the wine is medium- to full-bodied, rich, juicy and smooth textured. In fact, true to its word, the label indicates this wine is “extra smooth” and wooded, (mildly so); I think what helps tremendously is that this red wine is only 13.5% alcohol, so it’s not harsh or hot on the palate or back of the throat. The wine is smoky, with light, dried green herbs and ripe dark cherries on the nose; ripe dark plum, dark chocolate with a smoky sweet spice palate and dark cherry medium-plus finish. The 2014 vintage is a ‘drink now’ wine, not pretentious in any way and will pair with any smoked or grilled meats and certainly with good friends and a campfire. And, at less than $14 it won’t break the bank even if you buy two.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
