The grapes for this French red wine blend are planted closer to the Mediterranean sea and therefore there are more spice accents in the finished wine along with red fruits, lavender and pepper. The vines are planted at an altitude of 200 metres above sea level, which preserves their freshness with cool nights. The soils consist of limestone plateau that's thousands of years old. The finish has moorland accents. Pair with rosemary lamb. Although the Languedoc is the world's largest wine region with 235,000 acres, it is not one homogenous mass or style wine-wise. There are actually 5 sub-climates and more than 50 different grapes used in varying blends. Compare that to the 5 grapes used in Bordeaux. There are also 8 different and distinctive winds that blow through the vines here as compared to one in the Rhone, the Mistral.

Reviews and Ratings

Sylvain Segard rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Lots going on on the nose. Plumy also jammy dark fruits, smoke, vanilla, flowery, cedar, astrigent aromas. Soft fruity entry immediately followed by black pepper. Extra dry but not grippy tannins. I would love this with a juicy slide of roast beef.
Donna Hargrove rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

With an intriguing mix of plum, vanilla and spice on the nose, this blend of Syrah, caring an and Mourvèdre from the south of France is a pleasant surprise on the tongue. Hints of dark fruit and spice on the palate. As a fan of Georges Bertrand wines, I was not disappointed.

Wineboy rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

A bit more reserved than other Bertrand wines I have tried recently. Berries and herbs are in the forefront, with pepper and spice in the background. A nice Monday night wine.
Cherie Cole rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Great structure and balance. Cherry, blackberry, cassis, clove on the nose. Medium bodied with a tart cherry finish. Pair with roasted chicken or pork. Tasted April 3, 2016.
Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review:

A decent wine for the price. Pair with burgers or other BBQ fare in the summer, or simply enjoy with charcuterie platters. 87 point.
Melanie Aubert rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review:

What a perfect way to start a weekend. This Coteaux de Languedoc from the south of France boasts a lovely blend of syrah, carignan and mourvèdre. Medium ruby red in colour, there is definitely a hint of garnet. On the nose, it’s quite fragrant, showing dark fruit, floral notes and spices.

The structure of this wine is really nice and quite balanced: medium bodied, medium tannins, medium acidity. On the palate, same dark fruit, with cedar, black pepper and those spices from the nose. Paired surprisingly well with Moroccan beef stew.
