Here's your sparkling wine for the summer (and year round)! Terrific value in this well-made, toasty and refreshing bubbly from Spain that's a third of the price of Champagne. Segura is one of the most respected producers of Cava, the Spanish name for sparkling wine. Terrific earthy aromas mingle with toasted almond and some green apple. Great aperitif or try it with roast turkey, fried chicken, or yes, even potato chips. Elegant, layered, refreshing.

Cava food pairings: seafood tapas, salty light meats, caviar, oysters, Chinese dishes.

Reviews and Ratings

Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Fine mousse with nose of biscuits, crushed almonds and apple. Palate repeats with richer flavours of marzipan. Long citrus marzipan finish. Cava is ultra-versatile. It works as an aperitif, for toasting or with desserts. Keep a few bottles on hand during the holidays. Terrific value in a sparkling wine and the decorative bottle makes this a lovely gift.
Douglas McMillan rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Don't let the gorgeous bottle make you think they're covering up for a disappointing wine. This is very nice, with pretty aromas of lemon, apple, biscuit, apricot, and minerality. The taste is smooth, toasty, and has medium-plus acidity. There's notes of apple, apricot, and a little nuttiness. A fantastic Cava, and makes a great gift as well.
Terry Jeans - Certified S rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

A great Cava, that is comparable to most champagnes, with toasty notes, lemon, and biscuity aromas. Only a fraction of the price, why would you not buy it. Good acidity and round mouthfeel, it would pair really well with many dishes or of course, on it's own at a holiday celebration.
Jon Steeves - Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Crisp, tart, fresh and inviting. A wonderful Traditional method bubbly at an accessible price point. Tart green apple, lime zest, a hint of white petal, lees. A crowd pleaser with a bottle shouting out for attention. I enjoyed this wine with freshly shaved prosciutto. tasted Nov 2016 - @jonsteeves rated 90/100
Melanie Aubert rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Would I spend double the money vs the regular Segura Viudas? Heck yes I would. This cava is much more complex than the regular bottle, with perhaps more stonefruit and minerality. A great buy for the holidays, especially with the ornate bottle embellishments!
Gwen Barton rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

I would buy this for the bottle alone- it's gorgeous! However, the cava didn't disappoint. Citrus and white flowers on the nose which also make their way to the taste. Some added tropical fruit in the mouth. Wonderful effervescence - lots of zesty acidity. What a wonderful hostess gift this would make!
Sharon Lécuyer rated this wine as 85/100 with the following review:

Toasty on the nose and citrus, toasted nuts and light effervescence on the palette.
Donna Hargrove rated this wine as 85/100 with the following review:

Crisp fruit on the nose, which continues on the tongue. A hint of vanilla and almond mixes with the crisp fruit for a delicious finish.

Would pair well with light crudités or a white fish dish.
Emilie Ryan rated this wine as 80/100 with the following review:

Presentation: Very distinctive, Medieval look. Would not look out of place in a Medieval fair.
Appearance: Pale lemon colour
Nose: Medium to pronounced intensity aromas of lemon, white grapefruit, pear, biscuit and yeast
Taste: Dry, many sharp, effervescent, small bubbles, which erupt quickly, then disappear into the ether. You are left wanting more. Tastes of lemon rind and biscuit
Finish: Medium finish of lemon rind
Overall impression: A good Cava, though not very complex. Would be good as a quick palate cleanser or for a quick toast.
Value: 2.5/5
A full-bodied Cava from Penedès is made in the traditional method as for Champagne. Segura Viudas Heredad Reserva Brut is a great year-round sparkler, yeasty with fresh baked bread, almonds, citrus flavours on the palate and with a fine, persistent mousse. Pretty bottle with a pewter bottom. Segura is one of the most respected producers of Cava. - Community Wine Reviews
