Nick Onischuk - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review: The Plunkett Fowles Stone Dweller Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 is great value for the price! This full bodied beauty features aromas and flavours of dark fruit, black berries and currants. Smooth at first with an intense finish – paired very well with the lamb sliders. Tasted at the Australian High Commission Ottawa Fowles Wine Tasting on April 8, 2014 (92/100)
Martha Kelly AIWS - CS rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review: Ready to drink now, this deep ruby wine has a velvety mouth-feel as the classic flavours of cassis, black berry, and vanilla with a minty lift linger on the lush, elegant finish. Date tasted: April 2014 Pair with game such as Elk, with Lamb, or finer cuts of beef.
Heather Wall - CS; WSET Advanced rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review: Deep ruby medium+ bodied beauty. The typical graphite is evident from start to finish in this wine. Perhaps a nod to the terroir of Fowles Wineries. 440 Million year old granite boulders and extremely infertile dirt. "Better dirt than France!" boasted winemaker Matt Fowles. Graphite nose leads to sour cherry, cassis, plum, vanilla, smoke, leather and mint. Tannins are smooth. Drink now and enjoy over the next few years. Lingering silky fruit driven finish. Donna Hargrove rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review: Delicious medium bodied Cab. Berry flavours with a velvet finish. Paired very nicely with the lamb sliders served at @AusHCCanada on April 9/2014. #AusWineCan
Craig Kuziemsky rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review: Aromas of cherry, raspberry and a touch of oak. On the palate is a wonderful mixture of cherry, plum vanilla and spice. Soft tannins provide a long and luscious finish.
Corinna Horton rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review: Aged in 140 year old English oak barrels, Stone Dwellers is round and full highlighting warm spice, blackberry, vanilla bean and dirt. It’s generous, earthy finish makes me to want to pair it with rich meats and cream sauces.
Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review: An opaque dark garnet red that is fragrant on the nose with ripe raspberries, dark red stewed fruit, smoke, oak and pepper. Palate gives ripe dark berry fruit, oak, smoke , spice and hint of mint. Well-balanced, soft tannins. Long ripe fruit finish with final touch of mint.
Malcolm Lamont - WSET Adv, CSW rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review: A medium intensity nose with a lively minerality tied in with a graphite aroma. Perhaps this is a great new world example of "Sense of Place" or "Terroir" as the soil of Matt Fowles winery is laced with ancient graphite boulders and is INfertile thereby focusing its energy on the grapes, and producing better wines. Tasted April 8, 2014 at the Fowles Wines tasting
Mary Anne van Gaal rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review: An easy to drink, medium Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine starts with berry and plum flavours and finishes with layers of smoke and spice. Enjoyed with the beef and lamb served at the Australian High Commission Ottawa Fowles Wine Tasting on April 8, 2014.
Dan Trcka Wine Blogger rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review: The 2009 Stone Dwellers Cabernet Sauvignon has intense aromas of creamy cherry, vanilla and wood. It is a medium bodied, extra-dry fruity wine, with forward acidity, refined tannins and a medium to long finish. This is a food friendly and a sipping wine; drink now – 2018+. My impression: NICE to BEAUTIFUL, 89 pts – recommended for its quality. Tasted at Australia Today 2014 Trade show http://grapeselections.com/australian-wine/ in Feb/14. See my wine recommendations readily available at the LCBO here: http://grapeselections.com/grapeselections
One of the fastes growing products being sold at the LCBO, Stone Dwellers has made a mark due to its bold, rich character with fruit sourced from the up and coming Strathbogie Ranges. A can't miss Aussie Cab.
