Boca Nera

Terracello Winery Boca Nera 2013

Prince Edward County, Ontario V.Q.A., Canada

Joe Hache scored this wine: 93/100

Boca Nera means "stained mouth" in Italian. This wine has flavors of cherry, blackberry, vanilla and smoky tobacco. A fellow winemaker in the county describes it as a "fruit bomb"! TerraCello's Boca Nera is a rich, juicy, big red wine that when paired with beef such as a burger, compliments and contrasts flavors! It also pairs very well with the winemakers personally prepared pizzas in his homemade stone oven! Available only at the winery, this wine makes the trip to the county worthwhile! A recent Opimian tour I brought to the winery literally bought every bottle off the shelves!

What a delight this wine was to taste. The newest winery in Prince Edward County and a blend I have not tried before! It was a Riesling and Vidal that plain worked! It was floral and refreshing and very crisp. I caught hints of orange blossom and there was a touch of minerality. This was good on it's own but could see pairing with a sharp cheese or some Thai food!

Castoro Cellars Sauvignon Blanc 2012

Although a California wine this is very similar to the New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc's that I enjoy! It is very aromatic and the mouth is clean and has lingering citrus notes. Have this with a zesty salad or a salmon with a lemony butter sauce. Another favorite offering from the Opimian Society!

Clovelly Chardonnay 2009

Joe Hache scored this wine: 89/100

This is a very flavorful wine with bright citrus orange peel flavors. It is 60% oak fermented and aged for 9 months in French Oak which brings a nice vanilla flavor without having that "oaky" taste. Another great offering from the Opimian Society!

This is a blend of Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Trebbiano, Malvasia. Aroma of ripe red berry, blackberry, blackcurrant, vanilla, chocolate. In the mouth the balance is perfect with red berry fruit, smoke, leather and bitter chocolate, all part of the classic signature of Chianti. This would go well with pasta with sun-dried tomatoes, olives and goat. Another great Opimian wine selection! cheese
