BBQ Bliss: 4 Caymus Wines to Impress Dad this Father’s Day

Father’s Day is Sunday and BBQ season is in full swing, so why not toast Dad with wines that pair well with the grill? But which wines work best?

Here with her tips is Natalie MacLean who offers Canada’s most popular online wine and food pairing classes at nataliemaclean.com.

Welcome Natalie.

Great to be with you, Mona!

Tell us about this first wine.

The first wine is the coveted Caymus Napa Cabernet, made by the Wagner family who are celebrating the 50th anniversary vintage of this wine. It’s just arrived in stores.

The grapes for this wine are grown in Napa Valley’s top vineyard parcels, which results in lush aromas of ripe blackberries and dark plums.

Then the wine is aged in French oak casks to give it a wonderfully toasty finish. It’s elegant, like liquid velvet, and would pair beautifully with a juicy grilled steak.

I hear there’s a special anniversary event happening in town soon.

Yes, you can keep the Father’s Day celebrations going by getting dad tickets to the Caymus 50th anniversary wine dinner event on June 27th at the Permanent in downtown Vancouver.

It’ll be hosted by Chuck Wagner, the Co-Founder of Caymus. This multi-course dinner will be paired with eight different Caymus wines.

You can get tickets through Eventbrite here or look for a link on my Instagram account @NatalieMacLeanWine.

What do you have for us next?

I have a new wine from the Wagner family called Caymus California and it has also just arrived in stores. The label is darker; inspired by a picture of the soil in one of Chuck Wagner’s favorite vineyards.

Caymus California has seductive notes of dark berries, mocha and wild wood spice. The grapes come from top Californian regions such as Lake County and Paso Robles.

It would be perfect with gourmet hamburgers and all the fixins. Forget giving dad yet another striped tie. He’ll love this wine!

Let’s move on to the next wine you have for us.

Bonanza is a well-made, balanced Cab with . The grapes are sourced from quality vineyards across California.

This wine will muscle in alongside roast beef, pasta or meat lovers’ pizza and growl with pleasure. No wimpy wines for dad!

What are we wrapping up with?

We’re bringing this home with the Mer Soleil Chardonnay from Monterrey, grown in the Santa Lucia Highlands.

There are hundreds of lemon trees planted throughout the vineyards. Mer Soleil means ocean and sun, which is an apt name for a wine that’s bursting with lemony sunshine as well as ripe tropical fruit notes wrapped in buttery goodness.

This wine will purr with a feast of lobster in melting butter or fettucine alfredo with salmon.

Thank you, Natalie.
