I’ve read the book, but have yet to see the movie. In the meantime though, I’ve thought of 5 terrific wines to drink while you’re reading the book or watching the movie (I guess you’ll have to slip a bottle into your purse/man purse for the latter if you’re going to the theatre). Have you got a wine to suggest?
Cheers,
Natalie
2008 Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio, D.O.C., Valdadige, Italy: We’ve got to have an Italian wine given the “Eat” part is in Italy, and this wine is fantastic with pizza! Lovely aromas of lemon, white melon and chives. Very refreshing and clean. The ultimate aperitif. 106450 12% alcohol $16.95 Score: 88/100.
2007 Lingenfelder Riesling Bird Label, Q.B.A., Pfalz, Germany: The perfect wine for that spicy Inian cusine that Liz/Julia enjoys. I look forward to the release of this wine every year. It’s an amazing value for the money and delightfully delicious. It rocks with notes of lime, Granny Smith apple, chives and a tangy tangerine zest on the finish. Chill with a glass of this wine, close your eyes and say to yourself: life’s good! 568634 11% MD 750 mL $14.95 Score: 89/100.
2009 Inniskillin Wines Pinot Noir, V.Q.A., Niagara-On-The-Lake, Ontario: Could any wine be better with a romantic chick flick than Pinot Noir, the heartbreak grape? Love (or a multi-million dollar book deal and movie royalties) heals all wounds. This wine is loaded with rich cherry-berry flavour delivered on a satin texture with medium- to full-bodied weight. A blackberry-infused finish makes this wine go down slippery fast. Pair with: salmon carpaccio, grilled tuna and sea bass, wild mushroom risotto, bee and past marinara. Drink: 2010-2013. 261099 13% $14.95 Score: 89/100.
2008 Woop Woop Shiraz, South Eastern Australia, Australia: Fleshy and muscular like Javiar Bardem. Well, if Penelope has him, then at least I can drink to those dreamy eyes with this plummy, full-bodied and delicious! What a terrific wine for the price. Aromas of big fat blackberries 180174 14.5% $14.95 Score: 89/100.
2007 Rosenblum Zinfandel, California: One of California’s Zinfandel mistros. Classic zinfandel with rich layers of brambleberry, blackberry and blueberry. Full-bodied, supple and smooth. It’s all-American, with lots of character, sass and verve like Julia and Liz. Pair with: grilled back ribs. 284653 14.60% $15.00 Score: 88/100.
