There’s only one thing better than eating and drinking, and that is eating and drinking outdoors. We waited patiently through the winter and remained calm and humble when spring brought us a little warmth. But now the moment has arrived. We can boldly step outside with our plates of food and glasses of wine and celebrate the arrival of summer. Let’s organize a good old-fashioned family BBQ party.
The key words for this party are “simple” and “fun.” We are going to please everyone and make the most delicious hamburgers ever – Three-Cheese Burgers. And here’s the brilliant part. We are going to serve the three cheeses used in the recipe as appetizers and pair them with some refreshing wines.
Since the cheese called for in the recipe are very popular, everyone will be happy, including the children. I suggest you go for a nutty Saint-Augustin from the Abbaye Saint-Benoît-du-Lac and a buttery Black River mild cheddar from Ontario, which won 1st place in the Mild Cheddar category at the Canadian Cheese Grand Prix last April. As for the third cheese, I recommend the very sweet, semi-soft Clover Leaf Havarti from Alberta. Remember to save some of the cheese for the burgers!
Here are three suggestions for wine that would work very well with our cheese platter. The light and refreshing Aveleda Fonte Vinho Verde is perfect for a summer get-together, with its delightful spritzy finish. Also try the Poderi Elia Moscato D’Asti 2009, a versatile, crisp and fruity sparkling white that will match all of the cheese on your platter. Finally, treat yourself to a dry, light and tangy Château D’Aquéria Tavel Rosé 2010, a wonderful new arrival.
Here’s to a great month of June!
Love this and your blog! We are so busy with the restaurant and the eclectic pairing there, that we are often at a loss for our simple meals at home. Thank you
