In 1985, shortly after graduating from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, Rodney and his wife Gayla purchased their first vineyard. This 40 acre piece of property is key to their current operation and has become home to their winery.

Rodney hails from a tradition of grape growing families, and represents the third generation of a farming family with roots that run deep in Lodi. His grandparents on both sides (the Marengo family and the Schatz family) were established growers in the 1950’s and his family now farms more than 1,200 acres of wine grapes. The varietals include Barbera, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Malbec, Merlot, Petite Sirah, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Teroldego, Vermentino, Viognier and Zinfandel.

A custom crush facility was built in 2001 which produces wines for numerous well-known wineries, both large and small. In 2005, Rod & Gayla expanded their operation to the bottle side with the winery’s flagship label Peltier Station introducing its first offering – a Petite Sirah that won Best of Class and Best of Region at the 2006 and 2007 California State Fair with 94 points! Three years later they bottled hy.brid as a response to the consumer’s desire for quality, affordability, and environmental consciousness wines. Now 15 years later, Peltier Winery's library of wines has expanded with multiple awarding wining brands and recently opened a Pop-up Tasting Room with the intention to grow into a larger tasting facility, barrel room, and executive suite.

Rodney is a tireless advocate for wine grape growers and has been an active member of the California Association of Wine Grape Growers since 1990. Rodney has given many hours to CAWG and served as chairman in 2006 and 2007. He also served as President of the Lodi Wine Grape Commission in 1998.

Rodney and Gayla enjoy spending time with their two children, as well as traveling and sharing good food and wine.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
