The GEOCAN Consortium was created in early 2010, in the wake of Haiti’s devastating earthquake. The purpose of the consortium is to rapidly gather information about the impacts of natural disasters by harnessing the collective expertise of engineers, professionals, and other volunteers from around the world. This is done by reducing the difficult task of large-scale damage assessment into smaller tasks that individuals can work on from the comfort of their own web browsers.

GEOCAN is currently focusing its efforts on the large earthquake that recently struck Christchurch, New Zealand. With your help, we will create digital maps of the earthquake damage by viewing aerial and satellite imagery from the days following the earthquake. The information provided by you and other contributors will be given back to the New Zealand government so that they can assess the overall impact of the earthquake on critical infrastructure in Christchurch. Furthermore, the results will be useful to the World Bank and the Global Earthquake Model Foundation in their work to create new tools and technologies to reduce earthquake risks worldwide.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
