This is so Bordeaux in styling and elegance, yet also has the distinct character of South African climate, soil and flavour. A gorgeous wine for the money, and a great alternative to Bordeaux. Pair with filet mignon.

Food pairings: grilled burgers, Margherita pizza, pepper steak, Tandoori-flavored dishes.

Reviews and Ratings

Andrew Bernardo rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

This is a gorgeous Bordeaux blend featuring pronounced red briar and plum skin, herbs, dried tobacco, spice and a hint of juniper. There is no sign of Brett in this wine. It is clean and pure. Good stuff. 91 Points. (www.ottawawinejournal.com)
Jon Steeves - Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Deeply concentrated, rich and well balanced. Full bodied, medium acidity and tannins. Old world style from South Africa. Good value. Old world elegance. Pairs well with BBQ steak or an Aged cheese platter. Tasted July 2017 after decanting 2h. 90 points. BespokeTastings
Monique Sosa - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Beautiful complexity and balance with some sturdy tannins. Dried rose petals, poached cherry, cigar box, peppermint, and cocoa notes dominate the flavours and aromas of this wine. A bold, full-bodied, mouthwatering Bordeaux-style blend easily paired with creamy mushroom and pancetta risotto. Tasted July 2017 by @sommsosa | bespoketastings.ca
Lynn Van Der Linde rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

A rival to the classic French region, this South African Bordeaux style wine boasts enticing aromas of baked figs, cured meats and hints of eucalyptus. Balanced structure and a lingering spicy finish make this a perfect pairing with charcuterie boards. Tasting well now, or cellar for another 5 years.
Tasted August 2017.
Andrea Shapiro rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Can definitely pick up some of the barrel ageing on this. Medium garnet colour with bright notes of blackberry, dark plum, cassis, prune, licorice, anise and leather. Also a hint of dark bakers chocolate. Flavours are full and round featuring; cherry, strawberry, baking spices and woody cedar touches. Medium plus acidity, body and finish with a whisper of pepper heat persisting. This would be a lovely pair with fillet mignon. 90 points - Feb 2018
Simon Chen rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

This is another Rothschild international collaboration wine in South Africa. Beautiful cigar box, black currant, eucalyptus aromas. Velvty texture and followed by smooth dryness. A beautiful ready-to-drink wine
Lori Kilmartin WSET3 - WSET3 Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

This Bordeaux Blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot from South Africa is 6 years old and showing no signs of slowing down for a few years yet. A bit of brickish tinge on the rim and some secondary aromas shining through. Ripe fruit, ash, smoke and leather on the nose. Flavours of dark fruit; blackberry and plums. Tannins are still firm and acidity well balanced. Tasted March 13, 2018.
Lynn van der Linde - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

A fantastic full bodied red for the price.
Dark brick red in the glass, with present aromas of smoke, leather, blackberries, and hints of anise, that carry through to a persistent blackberry flavour.
Wonderful with barbecued meats.
Tasted March 2018.
Pamela Chiles rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

A splendid red from South Africa, full and complex, but not overdone. Blackberry, raspberry jam, spice with a hint of fresh cigar or green tobacco leaf. Nicely balanced and great value. It craves a juicy steak!
From South Africa's Western Cape wine region, Rupert & Rothschild Classique (2012) is made very much in the Bordeaux style with a red wine blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. Rich raspberry, strawberry with fine herb flavours on this very elegant wine. This Classique wine is produced by Rupert and Rothschild, a partnership between Baron Benjamin de Rothschild and Anthonij Rupert on the historic French Huguenot farm Fredericksburg, founded more than 300 years ago in 1690. Pair with filet mignon. - Community Wine Reviewss
