Reviews and Ratings

Mymi Thesingingsommelier - Sommelier, FWS rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

For 30 years the Gardinier Family has presided over the destiny of Château Phélan Ségur. The Third dynasty to own the property, the family has become the guarantor of enlightened viticulture and has created a classic, precise and elegant wine that expresses all the typical character of the great terroir of Saint-Estèphe.
The 2013 is comprised of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot and it displays a splendid dark crimson color with plenty of legs running down the inside of the glass.
The nose is fresh and intensely perfumed with aromas of summer-ripe brambleberries, juicy raspberries, baking spices, lightly toasted oak as well as a whiff of grandpa’s cigar box.
Linear palate with a luscious acidity complementing fine-grained tannins. Flavours seduce slowly and as the wine breathes, earthy hints of vegetation and red berries emerge extending into a slightly smoky and delicious finish.
Grab a few bottles and do put some away… You will be delightfully rewarded for your patience!

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
