d'Arenberg The Stump Jump 2020, Mclaren Vale, South Australia, Australia: From the McLaren Vale, South Australia, d'Arenberg The Stump Jump 2020 has always been a customer favourite with its dark cherry, ripe raspberry, plum, nutty, earthy and savoury herb flavours. Dry and medium-plus-bodied, this vintage is a juicy red wine blend of Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvèdre and excellent value at $18. The wine label tells a story of Richard Bowyer Smith, who was a South Australian blacksmith and inventor of the stump-jump plough (able to plough tree roots) who also had poor eyesight, and the reason for the optometrist chart on the label. Rombauer Chardonnay 2022, Carneros, California, United States: Rombauer 2022 Chardonnay is a dry, full-bodied 100% Chardonnay from the Carneros wine region in California. Rich with ripe apple, ginger spice, lemon zest and minerally flavours on the palate, it is youthful, elegant and balanced with fresh acidity. The wine was aged nine months in both American and French oak barrels (30% new) and is very expressive now but will continue to evolve in bottle. Drink or hold to 2028 and pour with a sumptuous roast chicken. Rombauer was founded by Koerner Rombauer in 1980 and the winery has been making Chardonnay since 1982.
