A luscious, rich Chardonnay with a hint of toasted almond on the nose. Yet lots of vibrancy and golden apple brightness. Pair with roasted chicken.

Chardonnay food pairings: seafood, full-flavoured chicken dishes with creamy, garlic or lemon sauce.

Reviews and Ratings

Greg Hughes rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

This Chardonnay from Gisborne reminds me a lot of Niagara, in the big generous orchard character it exudes. Both Gisborne and Niagara have a lot of loamy soils, which can occasionally be over productive because the soil is so rich. Loam require constant vigilance on behalf of the vineyard workers - mercilessly pruning to ensure the plant suffers and produces only a small amount of high quality grapes.

The aromas explode with baked apple, citrus zest, and a smokey barrel note. Less restrained than your typical Chard, but unmistakable by the smell. The aromatics (and the taste) were aided by not over chilling it. Keep it at a sensible 15 degrees, if you can.

Brown butter, pastry dough, baked apple, lactic notes, honey, pear, and light citrus. Balanced, smooth, and competently made.

This wine insinuates itself between new world and old world representations. It is unrestrained and aromatic, but the fruit and spice notes have achieved a nice equilibrium.
SIMON SAYS... This Chardonnay displays characteristics of ripe melon, fig and tropical fruit notes derived from the unique growing conditions of the Gisborne region. A creamy and textural wine, it shows both harmony and elegance. It will reward further cellaring.
