This wine is made by the coveted Sassicaia winery. Juicy and savoury with smoky black fruit and full-bodied richness. A tannic, black blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sangiovese grapes. Needs a hearty meat dish. Decant 2 hours.

Reviews and Ratings

Lesley Quinn - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

The man Guidalberto is considered the pioneering agriculturist of Bolgheri, he planted all the cypress trees that make this town so picturesque and even inspired a poem from Giosuè Carducci. He was also the ancestor of the family Rochetta. The Rochetta's started famed winery Tenuta San Guido and she is home to the original "Super Tuscan" Sassicaia. This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot although still has great aging potential up to 30 years, is meant to be drunk earlier while you wait for your Sassicaia to age. It offers scents of black cherries and blueberries, with an elegantly long finish. Notes of bacon and smoke develop over the fruit and the tannins are like suede soft yet thick. A great partner to a Beef and Bacon Stroganoff.
