A stunning BC red wine made from the Merlot grape. Checkmate Artisanal Winery sources their fruit from the Osoyoos East Bench and Black Sage Bench vineyards rooted in the renowned Golden Mile Bench in Oliver. Aromas of fleshy black plum, wild blackberry, dark spice and smoke. The 2013 vintage of the End Game has a long finish. Only twelve barrels were produced. Pair with rare meats.

Reviews and Ratings

Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 94/100 with the following review:

CheckMate Artisanal Winery produces world-class Chardonnay and Merlot from their Golden Mile Bench winery situated in Canada’s wine capital, Oliver, BC. The 2013 End Game Merlot is an outstanding expression of ultra premium Okanagan Merlot. Sourced from the Osoyoos East Bench and Black Sage Bench, End Game displays a deep ruby colour, and the nose offers mocha, Spanish cedar box, plum, Christmas cake, and sweet pipe tobacco. Harmony, texture, and expressive, three descriptors for this beautiful expression of southern Okanagan 'bench' Merlot. The finish is textured with spice, refreshing dark fruit, and dusty cacao persisting. Drinking beautifully now, this will evolve gracefully over the next 10+ years. 12 barrels produced. Enjoy 2018-2028+. Tasted bottle 912 in April 2018. 94 points. Matt Steeves – www.quercusvino.ca

Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 94/100 with the following review:

What a gorgeous wine! Smoky and spicy on the nose, aromas of tobacco, campfire smoke and warm spice with a dark plush fruit background. Full bodied and smooth with smooth tannin, balanced acidity and a nice blend of smoke, spice, fruit, and savory notes on the palate. Enjoy now or save for a few years, but whenever you decide, pair this with a nice grilled steak.
