Virginia Mountain Vineyards was established as a vineyard in the spring of 1998 with the planting of two grape varietals (Chardonnay and Cabernet Franc) totaling 3325 vines. The operation has since grown to include an additional three grape varietals (Merlot, Traminette, and Petit Verdot) bringing the vine total to 5625 over a 9.5 acre plot. Many thanks are extended to the family and friends who have helped over the years to make the vineyard a success.

For several years we operated as a vineyard, selling grapes to many nearby wineries. During this same time, we were perfecting our wine production techniques, acquiring winery equipment, and making other capital investments for the planned opening of our winery. On April 1, 2006 we officially opened to the public as a winery offering 8 different wines. Beginning in 2007 we began to release several of our full-bodied red wines, bringing the total to 11 wines. For the 2008 year, we released an additional red wine blend, brining our total offering to 12 unique and distinctive wines.

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
