Veritas Winery, a family business owned by Andrew and Patricia Hodson, opened for business in June 2002; with the help of their daughter Emily they have succeeded in consistently producing a range of complex and elegant wines. The idyllic setting is easy to find but hard to leave, located just off I-64 at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

The unique wines of Veritas are all of high quality, derived from vitis vinifera with the exception of one French hybrid. Our philosophy is to make wine with the classic, old-style principles of Viticulture and Vinification, at the same time using state of the art technology to capture varietal and regional character.

Wine-making is the domain of Andrew and daughter Emily, who are committed to capturing the varietal character of the grapes. After completing her Masters in Enology at Virginia Tech, Emily joined the family venture full-time. Emily puts the quality of wine above everything - constantly working on characterizing the terroir of the vineyards.

Although our name derives from the Roman historian, Pliny the Elder's observation: “In Vino Veritas” ~ “In Wine There Is Truth” - we believe that the truth in our wine is in our grapes. With that as her credo, Patricia takes responsibility for the year-round cultivation and care of the vines. She carefully monitors the grapes throughout the growing season, and only the best fruit is selected for the crush.

Youngest daughter Chloe has returned from working with Dr. Richard Smart in Tasmania. She graduated from the University of Virginia in 2009, and is now managing the events and weddings at the winery. After years of working behind the scenes with service staff for weddings and larger events, and now being a new bride herself she brings a very fresh face with a lot of fun, intelligence and experience.

So come and visit! We invite you to take part in the essence of Virginia. Visit our vineyard, see how we grow our grapes, how we make the wine, and, finally, sit back on our sun-drenched deck, and enjoy the vistas and wondrous beauty of the Blue Ridge while tasting the fruits of our labor - the fruit of Virginia - captured for you in our luscious wines.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
