SINCE ITS BEGINNING, SYLVIN FARMS WINERY HAS BEEN dedicated to New Jersey agriculture. In 1976, when conventional wisdom said "plant American or hybrid varieties,"Sylvin Farms Winery made a commitment to the European vinifera grapes. The original vines were grafted in 1976 and planted in 1977. Over the years many different varieties of vinifera have been planted. The successful varieties (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot,
Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Blanc, Rkatziteli, Riesling and Muscat Ottonel) are thriving. The fact that some varieties have not grown successfully has not deterred Sylvin Farms Winery from continuing its field trials
of different varieties. Years ago, two rows each of Viognier, Semillion and Shiraz were planted. A row of Corvina was also planted.

Sylvin Farms Winery expanded its planting of Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay. In addition, we planted a Spanish variety called Tempranillo. This is an early ripening red variety and, if successful, its wine will be available this year. The Italian varieties, Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto, Sangiovese and Corvina that were planted several years ago, are producing a limited crop which is being made into wine. All the Italian varieties are blended together
and the resulting wine is called Accozzaglia, which means "medley" in Italian, as in musical medley. This is our medley of Italian grapes. Accozzaglia, Shiraz and Viognier will be available at the Garden State Wine Growers Association this year.

We planted a clone of Sauvignon Blanc that will add dimension to our Sauvignon Blanc. The clone is Sauvignon Musque. At the same time we expanded our planting of Viognier. These varieties grew well and we expect that they will continue to do so this year. We planted more Viognier, Nebbiolo, Dolcetto and Barbera. This will bring our vineyard to more than ten acres.

In keeping with our support of New Jersey agriculture, Sylvin Farms Winery has always poured New Jersey wines at the Garden State Wine Growers Association festivals. We will also continue to do so in the future.

The wines are made in limited quantities. We continue to experiment, including with the use of French Nevers Oak and American Oak barrels for aging.

The wines are sold at the winery, by subscription, or at one of several outlets. The wine maker's favorites vary among Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, Sparkling Blanc de Noir and Chardonnay.
