The building is next to the library and overlooks Smith Park and Mike's Ice Cream. 3 Rivers Grill and Brian's Pourhouse are our neighbors to the southwest.

This building was constructed in 1886 for Ezra and Georgiana Smith. They came across the Oregon Trail to Hood River by covered wagon from Illinois. Ezra found early success as one of our areas first successful orchardist and farmed the land that is now downtown Hood River. He also colaborated for the first bank in Hood River and oversaw the construction of a few historic buildings downtown. Ezra then went on to become an Oregon State Representative and made friends with Abe Lincoln.

The building was subsequently acquired by CC Anderson in 1922 and with her enormous basement was used as the town morgue. Anderson Funeral Home installed a steam powered body lift, cadaver laboratory, and other parts for their operations. The cellar's natural low temperature served well in hosting Hood River's deceased.

The Stoltz family bought the building in 1986 and established two of their business in the first and second floors. Advanced Navigation and Positioning Corporation and Advanced Systems Concepts occupied the building until 2006. These firms both worked with the government in the development of aerospace software and navigation technology for the aerospace industry.

Now we are ready to use this historic structure for cellaring of our barrels and bottles, and serving of our wines. Please feel come by and have a look at our interesting bit of local history.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
