The history at Shadow Mountain Vineyards began more than six decades ago, when the first vineyards were planted by Gus and his wife Helen Mase, both of Italian decent. The geography of the area and the beautiful surroundings of the mountain and the scenic vistas, reminded them of their homeland in the Piemonte of of northern Italy. A second generation of the family planted extensive vineyards in the 1960's and early 70's.he current owners, Alexander and Pamela McGeary acquired the estate in 1990 and have continued the tradition of growing and producing premium white , red and dessert wines in this unique microclimate, high in the mountains of northern San Diego County.

The present winery and production facility, rebuilt from a devastating forest fire in 1995, was opened to the public in 1996.

The Winery and Vineyards...
Shadow Mountain Vineyards & Winery is nestled on a northeastern slope at 3400', in the coastal mountian range of northern San Diego County. Located on Sunshine Summit, 1/2 mile off scenic State Hwy. 79, once part of the historical "Butterfield Stage" that brought manyAmerican and European settlers west to California. ]

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
