In 1995 we began a passionate relationship with the 45-acres in the hills east of St. Helena that would become our family estate. We had originally thought of the place simply as a heavenly oasis from which to look out upon Napa Valley and enjoy some quiet respite from the hum of city life. In that spirit we planted a small vineyard and setup a tiny boutique winery for our own recreation. In the early harvests, our grandchildren even enjoyed a good old-fashioned grape stomp!

However, it didn't take long for us to notice that our little family vineyard, located as it is among some of the valley's finest Cabernet producers, had the potential to produce wines of exceptional quality. As much as we have tried to remain retired from the frenzy of undertaking new and ambitious projects,We have limited ourselves to a maximum yearly production of 400 cases, and dedicated that strictly to Cabernet Sauvignon.Along the way, we have been fortunate enough to have recruited the help of some of the most inspired and dedicated viticulturalists in the valley: Jim Barbour who planted the first vines, and John and Davie Piña, who planted three additional acres and now manage the vineyard. Along with our winemaker, Aaron Pott, we are very excited to have finally met the standard we initially set out to achieve: a wine that is a true reflection of this precious terroir.Seven Stones’ guiding principle is simple: Great wine is made in the vineyard. However, this simple philosophy requires a uniquely high level of attention. Winemaker Aaron Pott and his team pay strict personal attention to every aspect of the growing process, from dropping approximately 40% of the fruit, to vine-by-vine grape selection in the vineyard prior to harvest, and taking as much time as necessary to be sure that every step in the growing process is the right step.

Winemaker: Aaron Pott,

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
