Senders Wines is a small family owned boutique winery. We specialize in high quality, meticulously crafted small lots of Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir from the world renowned appellations of Napa and Sonoma.

We believe making outstanding wine requires outstanding fruit. Our Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the Napa Valley appellations of Stags Leap, Rutherford and Oakville. Our Pinot Noir grapes grow in the cooler climates of the Russian River and Carneros appellations of Sonoma. We strive to create interesting wines where the fruit, tannins and alcohol are in harmony. Wines that are in harmony at release will age gracefully. Senders Wines produces premium wines from Napa and Sonoma. Our philosophy is simple: produce flavorful balanced wines that are delicious upon release and age gracefully. Simply stated, intense yet balanced.

During the harvest season, we meticulously taste and handpick our grapes when they reach the desired maturity. The wines reflect the terrior of California with special effort made to pick the fruit when the flavor is robust but not overripe. This creates a wine that balances fruit, acid and tannins without an overabundance of alcohol. Senders Wines make an impressive debut upon release and age to a smooth complexity of layering flavors.

Senders Wines is produced at a small custom crush facility in southern Napa Valley. The winemaker and owner, Craig Senders, has a long standing relationship with many growers in Napa and Sonoma. Over the years he has found select vineyards which produce premium grapes with intense flavors.

Our grapes are handpicked into ½ ton bins. They are gently destemmed and crushed into small fermentation bins. Rather than pumping over, the cap is punched down several times daily. This intensifies the fruit flavors and decreases the harsh tannins. After fermentation the wine is pressed into small French oak barrels for completion of secondary fermentation. The wines are carefully watched while they barrel age allowing the flavors from the fruit, tannin, oak and acid to blend together and develop additional complexity. We typically bottle the Pinot Noir after 10-11 months in the barrel and the Cabernet Sauvignon after 22-23 months of barrel aging.

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
