The Roudon-Smith Winery is dedicated to the production of exceptional wines from selected vineyards of the Santa Cruz Mountains and other regions of California. Traditional winemaking methods result in elegant, long-lived wines, which are the perfect complement to any meal. At Roudon-Smith Winery, we specialize in the making of fine wines as well as the enjoyment of taking on new challenges. Every year, we search for the most remarkable fruit available. Then with a minimal intervention approach to winemaking, we aim to preserve this quality as the grapes evolve to wine. Though small, we are growing our production as we find additional exceptional grape sources that we can turn into high quality wines.

At Roudon-Smith, we specialize in the making of fine wines as well as the enjoyment of taking on new challenges. With this spirit, we are constantly striving to find something we see as providing promise with keeping to mind that consistancy is important. As we roll this new web site out, we will be highlighting what we do to keep consistancy alive as well as our creative spirit.

The hyphenated name originates from Bob Roudon and Jim Smith, two engineers who made an exciting career change back in 1972. With their recent retirement, the 3rd generation Santa Cruz Hunt family and the Drewke family took over with an obligation to continue their legacy.n 1978 a newly expanded winery which would accommodate the 10,000 case goal was completed near Scotts Valley - again designed and built by engineers Roudon and Smith. The goal was (and still is) to maintain a size of operation that can be sustained and hand-operated by the Roudon-Smith workforce itself. Now, in semi-retirement, production is 2,000 cases annually. The once visionary venture of the 70s has aged well. Currently Roudon-Smith enjoys a solid maturity, built by a consistency of product that has won medals for the winery from the very beginning. Matching vintages of carefully chosen vineyards, Roudon-Smith specializes in Estate grown Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
