Paul discovered the idea of customers filling their own bottles at the source when he was in France in the 1960's. Known as Vin en Vrac, people would bring containers of all sizes and fill them with common table wines for a very low price, even for way back then. Paul decided to give it a try with quality wines and set the price reasonably low. He designated several barrels of artisan merlot, zinfandel, and cabernet, along with a white wine blend to this experiment. All the wines have been made on-site in San Anselmo at his winery and will be from the 2006-2008 vintages. Meanwhile, he will continue to offer cork-finished bottles of his artisan wines, also at very reasonable prices.

The Ross Valley Winery has been producing wine commercially in San Anselmo since 1987. They are located at 343 San Anselmo Avenue, next to the San Anselmo Inn and Comforts Restaurant.

Grape juice, passion and alchemy distinguish the fine winemaking at Ross Valley Winery. Since 1987, with notable success, our small Marin County operation has specialized in transforming modest lots of unique grapes into vineyard-designated wines, each with its own individual character and particular personality. Our endeavor is to provide distinctive wines which represent a good value, in a friendly environment where people are able to participate in and learn about wine and the winemaking process.

Our grapes are surrounded by friendships and festivity. To my knowledge, we are the only bonded winery in the United States involving people in winemaking to the extent we do

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
