The Robert Goodman Winery is a family owned and operated premium boutique winery located in the redwood forests of Northern California. Perched on a hillside at 1800 feet above sea level, the winery overlooks the serene waters of the Humboldt Bay and Pacific Ocean. This magnificent location delivers the perfect climate to create and age our handcrafted wines.

Our average annual wine production is 2500 cases. The majority of our production is our Cabernet Sauvignon, made from grapes from the award-winning Beatty Ranch on Howell Mountain, Napa Valley, California. In addition to our Cabernet Sauvignon, our production includes a Beatty Ranch Zinfandel, Carneros Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and a Late Harvest Zinfandel that is reminiscent of a fine Port wine. Our diminutive production allows us to dedicate our utmost attention to each of our wines, resulting in the ultra-premium quality of each individual bottle.
Robert Goodman began producing fine wines in 1977 with the sole vision of creating an exquisite Cabernet Sauvignon from premium Howell Mountain, Napa Valley grapes from the critically acclaimed viticulturalist, Mike Beatty. He has achieved and surpassed his original vision. The winery now handles just under one hundred barrels annually, which produce approximately 2500 cases per vintage. While Howell Mountain, Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has remained the flagship for our micro-winery, the list of varietals has grown to include Beatty Ranch Zinfandel, Pinot Noir, Carneros Chardonnay and even a late harvest Zinfandel, reminiscent of a fine Port wine.

The principle of operation most responsible for the success of the winery is the procurement of unparalleled premium fruit. Recently, Goodman has expanded his grape acquisitions to include Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes from the Sangiacomo Family Vineyard in the Carneros Appellation. He has also purchased Cabernet Sauvignon from the Polaris Vineyard, Howell Mountain, Napa Valley, from which he has created another "stellar" Cab. In addition, Goodman is proud to support highly select local vineyards in Humboldt County, California. The winery works closely with the Henry Rose Vineyard of Orleans (Cabernet Sauvignon) and the Weyhmiller Vineyards of Alderpoint (Pinot Noir), purchasing selected fruit from each.

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
