Our original family homestead near Mound City, South Dakota, is where Great Great Grandma Anna Pésa Vojta first made wine from the prairie berries she found growing nearby. Anna and her husband Jon settled in the Dakota Territory after arriving from Moravia (Czechoslovakia) in 1876 bringing their winemaking with them from the "old country."

Frances Kalda Vojta continued on with the family's wine recipes. Her son, Frank Vojta passed the winemaking gene on to Ralph Vojta, fourth generation winemaker.

Ralph and his daughter Sandi Vojta turned the family winery into a commercial venture in Mobridge, S.D. in 1998. Prairie Berry Winery moved to its current Hill City location in 2004.

Today, Sandi is the family's fifth generation winemaker handcrafting award-winning "new world" wines using old family recipes, fruits of the prairie, grapes and honey, making more than 30 different varieties of wine.

Rex Pickett, Sideways

Ms. MacLean is the disarming Everywoman. She loves wine, loves drinking ... ultimately, it's a winning formula.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
