After enjoying and collecting wines for many years, Rich and Gina Kilmer decided to take their passion to another level by creating their own wine. After six months of studying and discussion, they decided that the best way to learn about grape growing and wine making is to start with the land and do it all themselves. When the soil was ripped, they spent six weeks picking rocks from the vineyard site and then the two trenched and laid all their own irrigation.

Every vine was planted with their two hands, every trellis wire run, every cordon trained, every leaf pulled and every cane positioned. The couple shares the pruning duties, but Gina is a “tractor gal” while Rich manages the vineyard floor. Oh yes, they do get help one day a year "harvest day" and what a celebration of friends and family it is. Rich does the wine making, aided by his biology and chemistry background, and mentored by some well known winemakers and great friends out of Napa Valley.

The name “Postcard” occurred to the couple as they walked the vineyard surveying their surroundings and feeling that it was pretty as a…well you get the idea. The stamp on the label contains an old photo of Rich's grandfather who was a Royal Canadian Mounted Policeman dating back to the 1920’s. Tiny Postcard Vineyard can be found tucked away in the historic sierra foothills. The picturesque vineyard is nestled into a small, sun drenched valley at an elevation of 500 feet. The combination of elevation, warm sunny days, rocky soil and cool evening temperatures all contribute to an ideal terrior for the production of quality wines.
