Pinnacle Ridge Winery, situated in the heart of idyllic "Pennsylvania Dutch Country," is located along Old Route 22 outside of Kutztown, Pennsylvania.

In 1993, Brad Knapp established the winery, housed in a beautifully renovated Pennsylvania bank barn, originally built in 1851. The thick stone foundation provides cool, stable temperatures year-round…ideal conditions for the production and aging of wine. The processing area, which includes French and American oak barrels and stainless steel tanks, is entirely visible from the lower level tasting room. The sparkling wines are produced in what was once a potato cellar, near the barn.

The winemaking philosophy at Pinnacle Ridge is one of minimal intervention using traditional methods. This approach ensures that the unique flavors produced in our vineyards are retained and showcased in our award-winning wines.

At Pinnacle Ridge, only locally grown grapes are used to make our sparkling and table wines. The grapes are primarily grown in our estate vineyard and at nearby Round Ridge Farms, both in Berks County. The vineyards are located on shale-filled hillsides which promote small crops of very high quality grapes, steeped with local character.

We grow both French-American and European Vinifera grapes, such as Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. These are the same classic varietals produced in the Champagne region of France. Other varieties grown for Pinnacle Ridge wines include Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Vidal, Cayuga and Chambourcin. All of our fruit is harvested entirely by hand to ensure that only the highest quality grapes will be used in our wines.

Pinnacle Ridge specializes in sparkling wine/champagne which is hand-crafted using the traditional method or ‘Methode Champenoise.’ Currently a Brut Rose, a Cuvee Chardonnay, and a Blanc de Blanc are offered.

In addition, a selection of fine table wines are available, including most notably two Chardonnays, a Pinot Noir, a Cabernet Franc, a Merlot, a Dry Vidal Blanc, a Vidal Blanc, a Vidal Ice Wine, Chambourcin Rose', Chambourcin, our first Chambourcin Reserve and the Cayuga White. Our red wines are aged in oak barrels while most of the white wines are fermented in stainless steel tanks. Additionally, our Chardonnay is barrel fermented for added complexity; whereas our Naked Chardonnay is aged in stainless steel for a crisp, refreshing response.

Many of our wines have been awarded medals in state, regional, national and international competitions. The combination of high quality, locally grown fruit and the winemaker's passion and commitment to using optimum winemaking methods results in wines which rival the best wines made worldwide. Our most prestigious acknowledgement for our winemaking has been the Wine Excellence Award presented in January 2007 by the Wine Society of Pennsylvania for our 2005 Pinot Noir. Previously, we have received the Governor’s Cup in 2006 for our 2005 Vidal Ice Wine, and in 2003 for our 2001 Chambourcin hallmarking them as the best in the state of Pennsylvania.

As we look ahead to our fifteenth year in crafting quality wines, we not only celebrate the fruition of the burgeoning winemaking culture in Pennsylvania, but the opportunity to continue to provide incredible wines for our customers.
