Hours of Operation: Located at 1036 W. Aviation Drive, Pali Wine Co. offers tastings for the public Fridays and Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and by appointment. Tastings are $10 for five wines (the fee is waived with purchase), and are conducted in what may be the tiniest tasting room in California—a quiet corner of the winery where wines are poured on top of a barrel.

Founded by entrepreneurs Tim Perr and Scott Knight from Pacific Palisades, CA in 2005, Lompoc-based Pali Wine Co. produces premium wine for the best possible price without compromising vineyard sources and winemaking. Thanks to the strong grape-grower relationships developed by founder and Managing Partner Tim Perr, Pali first began producing single-vineyard bottlings ($40-$60) from coveted Pinot Noir vineyards including Keefer Ranch in the Russian River Valley, Durell in the Sonoma Coast, Shea and Momtazi in the Willamette Valley, and Fiddlestix and Turner in the Sta. Rita Hills in 2005. In 2009, Pali launched a “Cuvée Program” of Pinot Noir blends ($19) named for neighborhoods in the Pacific Palisades, as well as small amounts of Chardonnay, Rosé and Grenache. Given the success of these wines, and the availability of premium grapes at lower costs, Perr and Knight began increasing the Pali Wine Co. production to include more Cuvée wines and varietal wines in 2010, all priced to make premium wines sourced from top West Coast appellations and vineyards available to consumers at a reasonable price.

Pali Wine Co. began in the offices of Perr&Knight, an insurance and actuarial consulting company based in the Los Angeles suburb of Pacific Palisades. In 2005 Tim Perr and Scott Knight were in the fortunate position of having successfully built a business to a point of self-sustained growth, and they felt a sense of longing for the early days when their company was just a start-up based in Perr’s garage. “We already had some fair success in building a start-up business and had an urge to try something new, something we were passionate about,” says Knight. It didn’t take long after discussing the matter over with friends and colleagues at a wine dinner at Perr’s home to decide that their next venture should be in wine. They decided to name the winery after a favored nickname for the Pacific Palisades, and Pali Wine Co. was born.

“We came to this project out of an absolute love for wine. We also built a successful business from the ground up with Perr&Knight out of an unrelenting commitment to be the absolute best in our field. We wanted to take that same business acumen and drive for excellence to create something beautiful that we’d be proud to have on our table, and that our friends would want to buy,” says Perr, who serves as both visionary and general manager for Pali Wine Co.

An important goal for Perr is ensuring that all of Pali’s wines are kept at a fair price. “Keeping our wines accessible is incredibly important,” says Perr. “We are not out to create a large winery and we’re not out to create another cult wine brand, either. We want to be known for producing the finest wines possible at a good value to the consumer,” he adds. Economic conditions inspired Perr to launch a Cuvée line of appellation-specific Pinot Noir blends under the Pali Wine Co. label in 2009. Following the successful launch of those wines, Perr and his partners have
