Michael and Gwen Purdy, who grew up in Valsetz, Oregon, purchased the Orchard Heights Winery in 1996. They also have a chocolate factory in Hawaii, specializing in gourmet confections using Macadamia nuts, pineapple and Kona coffee beans. See the connection?

The flavors of chocolate and wine separately are wonderful but when you put them together, you have something really special. No one has a greater appreciation for the two combined than the owners of Orchard Heights Winery.

The chocolates and confections they bring over to the winery would make anyone’s wish list. Their newest treat is called Mele Macs (Hawaiian for Merry Macadamias). This creation made with Macadamia nuts covered in buttery, crunchy toffee, then smothered in rich chocolate and then finally, dusted in powdered sugar, has taken Hawaii by storm.

They are pleased to present their award winning wines - Gewurztraminer, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Riesling and Late Harvest Pinot Gris. There’s also a fun selection of specialty wines - Pineapple, Passion Fruit, Mango, Papaya and Tropical Blend made with a dry white wine to tone down sweetness.

The intimate tasting room and wine bar is open Monday thru Saturday from 11:00 – 5:00, 9:00 – 5:00 on Sunday, and is the perfect setting to sample the wonderful wines and chocolate. Or, stay for a while and have a bite to eat in the beautiful garden room. Please don’t forget the grounds, which provides an idyllic environment for a relaxed picnic, a stroll or even a game of horseshoes.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
