Founded in 2000 by young entrepreneur, Cane Vanderhoof, Miramonte has emerged as one of the most respected and heavily awarded boutique wineries of southern California. Located in the heart of the Valley, the winery and estate vineyard sit at an elevation of 1400 feet, and our remaining vineyards are located between 1400 and 1600 feet. We own, manage or otherwise buy the grapes from 44 total acres of Temecula's finest vineyards.

In early 2008, we purchased an important neighboring piece of undeveloped land on Rancho California Road, effectively extending our estate vineyard to approximately 13 acres. At present, we are preparing to develop the new acreage to one of the finest vineyards of its type in California.

We focus on Rhone varietal wines and blends, but continually look for interesting expressions of additional varieties and styles. To plant and manage our vineyards, we work closely with Southern California’s premier vineyard manager, Ben Drake.

The goal in the vineyard is to grow grapes which show consistent concentration and intensity, year-after-year. We typically plant our vines in 9x5 or 9x6 spaced rows (806 vines/acre or 968 vines/acre). Each vine is limited to 8-12 bunches per year, and farmed for a careful sense of balance. We feel this ensures the development of a genuine sense of place in the flavors and aromas of each vineyard block.

Our goal is to craft the finest wines possible. We believe in minimal intervention to allow for the most natural expression of the fruit, and we believe in paying meticulous attention to detail throughout the entire wine making process --- from the vineyard to the winery. We very work hard to produce wines of depth, character and sophistication, and our house style focuses on intensity, individuality, regional distinction and elegance of expression.

To date, our wine making efforts have been well-recognized. We have been consistently rewarded as one of the most heavily awarded boutique wineries of Southern California.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
