MINASSIAN-YOUNG VINEYARDS - A husband and wife, David Young and Amparo L. Young, winemakers and owners.

In the central coast of California, surrounded by the Santa Lucia Mountain Range is west-side Paso de Robles. Minassian-Young Vineyards is situated in Peachy Canyon atop one of the characteristic soft rolling hills. On the ranch there are two vineyards and a walnut orchard, all of which are dry farmed. Dry farming is a culture practice relying entirely on natural rainfall with no supplemental irrigation.  The resulting fruit is truly characteristic of that vintage.

The larger of the two vineyards, was planted in 1982 and is a mixture of head pruned Zinfandel clones: Dusi, Primitivo and Ueberroth. The smaller vineyard was planted in 2006 to create a field blend of 80% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre and 10% Counoise. The walnut orchard was planted approximately 60 years ago and consists of 10 acres of Mayette walnuts.

Our winemaking philosophy is to produce wines in a consistent manner, where the differences between vintages arise only from variables we cannot control such as temperature and rainfall.  In addition, our wines are produced without blending fruit from multiple vineyards.  This minimalist approach ensures that every vintage is representative of the terroir for each vineyard.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
