Welcome to Kickapoo Creek Winery, a great place in central Illinois to sample and purchase fine local wines, and to learn about how wine is made. It's a place to walk or hike along trails beside lakes, surrounded by vineyards and tall oak trees. It's a place to have a party, corporate meeting, wedding, or reception.
Dr. David Conner, a retired Orthopaedic Surgeon, has spent many years developing Conner Nursery, and now Kickapoo Creek Winery. The nursery is home to over 400 varieties of hostas, these helped provide the inspiration in naming some of the wines. The nursery also features the largest selection of ornamental grasses in central Illinois, best viewed along the Fantasy Grass Trail during the Fall bloom.
Dr. Conner's knowledgeable staff has leveraged their expertise with the new winery, having already won two silver medals in Illinois state competitions during their first full year of operation! We are sure you'll also enjoy these fine wines.
How can we grow such fine grapes? The soil at Kickapoo Creek Winery is rich "timber soil", not well suited for corn, but ideal for growing grapes, and lots of them! In fact, we produce a gallon of wine per plant. Midwest grapes are comparatively intolerant to cold, and our vineyards are planted on higher ground, away from the colder, denser air. This helps the grapes remain high, dry, and frost-free.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
