Almost 25 years ago, in the midst of a successful and respected career as Chief of Neurosurgery at two prominent hospitals in San Francisco, Dr. Thomas Kenefick fell in love with wine country. This love led Dr. Kenefick to the Napa Valley where he became fascinated by the correlation between vine health and the very people he skillfully mended through neurosurgery. In time, he acquired a 125 acre vineyard property at the foothills of the Palisade Mountains in Calistoga. It was here that he would “mend” an average vineyard and transform it into a healthy, super-premium ranch that would meet Napa Valley’s standard.

Once this high standard had been achieved Dr. Kenefick began growing grapes for some of the world class wineries present in the Napa Valley. In 2002 he launched his own wine label of the Kenefick Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon. Later releases would include Kenefick Ranch “Chris’ Cuvee” Cabernet Sauvignon and Kenefick Ranch “Caitlin’s Select” Cabernet Franc named after his son and daughter, respectively.
The future of Kenefick Ranch is bright with plans in the works for a boutique winery to produce all Estate Grown and Estate Bottled wines. We will continue to focus on our core Bordeaux varietals while adding some exceptional red and white blends to the portfolio.

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
