Meet the winemaker for Kelley Creek Wine, Scott Lindstrom-Dake. Scott did not graduate from college with a degree in oenology, fermentation science or biology. Nope, he graduated from Dominican College in San Rafael with a degree in Fine Arts and a minor in Art History. “I enjoyed college because it taught me how to learn,” Scott reflects, and learn he did. During the summer between his junior and senior year at Dominican, Scott studied Florentine Renaissance Art History in Florence. “What better place to study art than where it was created and to see it in real life!” he exclaims. When Scott arrived back in Sonoma County he felt inspired to create something.

In October 2000, Scott began working on his first commercial production under his own brand thumbprint cellars: 66 cases of Russian River Pinot Noir, 50 cases of Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, 25 cases of Dry Creek Valley Merlot, 25 cases of Cabernet Franc and 25 cases of a meritage blend called three some. “One hundred ninety-one cases, no way could I drink ALL of that wine, so I hit the local wine shops and restaurants to see if they were interested,” says Scott, “and they were interested. It wasn’t enough to quit my day job, but since my day job was making wine I didn’t feel I needed to!” He continued to work for F. Teldeschi Winery until after the harvest in 2004 when thumbprint production soared to two thousand four hundred cases.W. Dry Creek Road is now underway, as is the redevelopement of the Estate vineyards. Twenty-two acres of merlot have been converted to 8 different varietals including viognier, Riesling, cabernet franc, malbec, petit verdot, three syrah clones, zinfandel, petite sirah. A ten thousand square foot, gravity flow and sustainable winery will be built on this site. Kelley Creek Winery is slated to be operational for the 2009 harvest. Expectations are to promote organic vineyard practices and a zero carbon footprint.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
