Robert Parker stated the following in his December 22, 2009 his annual NORTHERN CALIFORNIA - Part I - Napa Valley wine reviews about our wines:
"This is a superb line-up of wines from Lou Kapcsandy, who emigrated from Hungary to set up a construction business in Seattle, which he gave up for his true love - making wines along with his wife, Bobbie, and son, Louis. They were fortunate to be able to purchase Beringer’s State Lane Vineyard in Yountville, and have it completely replanted by Helen Turley and John Wetlaufer. They then brought in Bordelais Denis Malbec to help produce the wines, which have gone from strength to strength. The 2006s are magnificent, but may be eclipsed by the 2007s."
The historic State Lane Vineyard, in the heart of the Napa Valley was first leased by Beringer Estates in 1972 from the McClaskey Family. In 1979, Beringer Estates began bottling the State Lane Cabernet Sauvignon as a single vineyard designated wine. The remaining grapes were used to launch the now famous Beringer Estates Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon program. State Lane remained the cornerstone of the Private Reserve wines until 1999 when phylloxera destroyed the vines.
Our family – Lou, Roberta and son Louis Jr. – purchased the property in May, 2000. This vineyard was known to us for many years from Beringer's winemaker’s Myron Nightingale and Ed Sbragia. The wines from State Lane vineyard continued to be highly sought after. The 1995 State Lane Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon was awarded 95 points by the Wine Spectator as the top Cabernet Sauvignon in California. Robert Parker has consistently rated the wines at 90-plus points. We replanted State Lane Vineyard to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, in a tightly spaced 3 ft. by 5-1/2 ft. (2,640 vines/acre). A new state of the art wine making facility was completed in September 2005. The vineyard is farmed by Pina Vineyard Management Company, renowend vineyard managers for several of Napa Valley’s premium wines.

Our first two vintages of wines the 2003 and 2004 were produced by Helen Turley. For 2005 we brought in Helen Turley’s recommendation; Rob Lawson, the winemaker at Napa Wine Company for the past 16 years, where most of Napa Valley’s super premium wines were originally crafted and are still produced to date along with Denis Malbec, from Chateau Latour, Pauillac; the First Growth winery in Bordeaux.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
