oseph Family Vineyards is a partnership of two families. Jon Joseph, president, is a former Wall Street executive with financial market experience in New York, Tokyo and San Francisco. Bill Esselstein, general manager, spent over 40 years practicing public agency law in Menlo Park, CA.

Bill is on the board of the Alexander Valley Winegrowers association, while JFV is also a member of the Sonoma County Grape Growers association, and the Family Winemakers of California.
Our Winemakinglexander Valley's Cabernet Sauvignon is like no other in the world. It is classical with structure contributed by its mineral soils; it is intense with fruits of black cherries and currant provided by its warm weather. We and our winemakers over the years have worked diligently to extract the very best that the appellation has to offer. Our earliest vintages were made by Scott Peterson, of SP Drummer, who first worked with the storied Andre Tchelistcheff at Conn Creek, and later became one of the senior winemakers at Kendall Jackson. Scott has preferred classical techniques of extended maceration and tannic balance. Last year's vintage was made by David Ramey, whose background before he started Ramey Wine Cellars is an 'A' list of the finest wineries in the world, including Chateau Petrus, Rudd, Chalk Hill and Dominus. For us, David was a 'minimalist' in the true French sense: natural yeast, no acid, and no filtering. We are eternally grateful for the trajectory of excellence these two winemakers set us on and whose styles we will, in our own winemaking, continue to honor.

Winemaker: David Ramey

Red, White & Drunk all over by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean writes about wine with a sensuous obsession... and often laugh-out-loud funny... Terrific.

Rex Pickett, Sideways

Ms. MacLean is the disarming Everywoman. She loves wine, loves drinking ... ultimately, it's a winning formula.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
