James Blake Wines is a partnership between James Scheller and Blake Griffin, two friends who share a passion for creating high-quality artisan wines. We are blessed to be in such close proximity to Napa Valley, home of arguably the best fruit in the world. The majority of our grapes come from premium vineyards located in the best appellations in Napa Valley; Oakville, Stags Leap, and St Helena. We have long-term relationships with top growers in Napa Valley who share our passion and commitment to producing the highest quality product. We compliment these traditional Napa offerings with a limited amount of our favorite varietals from appellations that are in proximity to Sacramento; the Sierra Foothills and delta-influenced central valley locations. It is with great pride that our family owned winery makes our delicious, distinctive wines available for your enjoyment.
We are dedicated to the production of hand-crafted, small batch, artisan wines utilizing minimalist wine making techniques with the finest ingredients. We have long term contracts with growers for specific rows in each of our vineyards that allow us to be intricately involved in all of the key aspects of grape production. All of our fruit is handpicked in the early hours of the morning and transferred cold to our facility in Sacramento. We hand sort our fruit in the vineyard during harvest and in the winery throughout the crush.handsort_375w We use a de-stemmer to separate the stems from the berries which is gentler on the fruit than a crusher, avoiding the harsh tannins that are released from the crushing process and resulting in more whole berries.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
