Growing up in a poor district of Liverpool—a port city in England over 800 years old—a young lad named Malcolm Hutton emigrated to Canada in search of new opportunity after graduating from Engineering College. From there to the U.S. and then Korea, Malcolm rose to Project Engineer in the nuclear power industry, which would lead him, at various times, all around the world. Returning to the U.S. after Korea, he purchased a small, gravely farm in New Jersey—where the idea for a vineyard was first born.

But after a compelling offer from a major power company, Malcolm relocated to Topsail Island, NC and continued traveling the world working on various projects. The dream of starting a vineyard was temporarily placed on hold until he stumbled across the Yadkin Valley wine region while working on a project in India.
