Hope Family Wines, producer of Liberty School, Candor, Troublemaker, Treana and Austin Hope wines, has been a community leader and ambassador in Paso Robles for over thirty years. While the winery is now one of Paso Robles’ largest family-owned wine producers, its roots are firmly planted in three generations of farming. When Chuck Hope and his family moved from Bakersfield to Paso Robles in 1978 to grow grapes, they were among a handful of pioneering families in the region. Since planting the first vineyard just east of the Salinas River in 1980, Hope recognized the potential of this distinct winegrowing region and wanted Paso Robles to earn the recognition it deserved. He was one of the first growers in the area to introduce lower crop yields and to prioritize quality of fruit over quantity. Throughout the 1980s, Hope Farms helped establish Paso Robles' solid reputation for high-quality grape growing, and the family served as a driving force in the development of dozens of vineyards throughout the region.

In recent years, Chuck Hope’s son Austin has infused a wealth of fresh ideas and a strong dose of youthful energy to the Paso Robles wine scene. Having grown up immersed in Paso Robles vineyards in the 1980s, Austin has wine in his blood. He began working alongside his father in the family vineyards when he was just eight years old, and after graduating from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 1995, he oversaw the launch of Treana, marking the Hope family’s expansion from grape farming into winemaking.

A champion of the anti-snob approach to drinking wine (Austin is known to preach the power of his wines as equally enjoyable from crystal or plastic), Hope embraces new technology and non-traditional marketing methods. From his evangelical advocacy of multi-vintage winemaking for the Candor and Westside Red labels, to the recent launch of an iPhone app that combines music and wine, Austin is both constantly developing innovative approaches and maintaining the family legacy of producing world-class wines of quality and value.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
