Over one hundred years ago, as early settlers first tamed the wilderness of the Cumberland Plateau, a curious lot of Victorian Utopians established the first vineyards in the area near the historic colony of Rugby. There, they made wines that won a number of gold medals at wine-tasting competitions in the 1880's.

About the same time, German settlers in the Allardt community of Fentress County brought their wine making skills to this new territory. These new residents established personal vineyards and made some excellent wines for their own use.

In the same time-honored tradition, Highland Manor Winery has been creating its won award-winning wines for over three decades, warranting its unique distinction as Tennessee's oldest licensed winery. Each fall, the heavily laden vines are meticulously harvested of their fruit by hand. The grapes are gently pressed for their precious juice before the magical transformation that eventually yields fine wine. "We preserve the delicate balance of century-old customs and modern techniques to produce the premium wines our customers have come to expect.

The climate on the Cumberland Plateau, with its seasonal extremes, is conducive to wine making. Word continues to spread worldwide about Highland Manor wines. Their non-vintage white table wine was specifically cited as one of the top finds in the country by wine critic Coleman Andrews in his book, Wines of America. And, Highland Manor continues to win awards for its fine wines, including gold medals from as far away as Madrid, Spain. There are currently available eleven of these fine grape wines, red and whites, ranging from dry to sweet.

Noted wine critic Coleman Andrews, in his book Wines of America , specifically cited out non-vintage White Table wine as "one of the top finds in the country." Highland Manor wines haves won many prizes and awards, including international competitions as far away as Madrid, Spain.
