New Mexico has a long history of grape growing in the United States beginning with Franciscan Friars in 1629 when vineyards were planted to produce sacramental wine for Mass. In the early 1900’s a small vineyard was planted here in the tiny village of San Fidel and three of the original vines continue to produce fruit each year. These few, precious vines have served as our inspiration to continue the grape growing traditions of the Franciscans begun well over 400 years ago.

First planted in the Spring of 2000, Guadalupe Vineyards has now grown into a small boutique winery featuring three fine premium wines, Riesling, Gewurztraminer and the delightful dessert wine, Muscat.

Our wines are the offspring from close relationships with the land, water, terroir, family, friends, love and commitment. 2000 vines of hardy vinifera grapes are perfectly suited to our high altitude of 6,400 feet of desert plateau and fed by the natural mountain springs of Mount Taylor. The vineyards thrive beneath a hot desert sun of day and cool summer nights which help create a nice acidity while keeping our wines crisp and clean.

And finally, we at Guadalupe Vineyards realize that we are only a small part of a dynamic eco-system surrounding us here on the land. We have been blessed to share a close relationship with wildlife such as coyotes, bobcats, mountain lions, bear, elk, quail, roadrunners, raptors and a myriad of small creatures who help make this the remarkable and exquisite place it truly is.

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
