Contact: Frank Cleary

The barn was built in the late 40’s to early 50’s by Kenneth Ward. He ran a dairy operation out of the bottom level and the top level was used for tobacco. We started renovating the barn as much as possible, both in terms of the structure and the feel. Frank Cleary has been a custom home builder for fifty six years. It was his vision that turned the barn into a winery and gallery. The walls of the tasting room are walnut. These trees were cut from the winery property and other Calvert County home sites that Frank cleared for houses. He milled the wood and aged it in barns until he found a use for it here at the winery. It was planed down and made into the beautiful tongue and groove paneling that we have today. The walnut was also used for all of the cabinets, trim work, the interior front door and the base of the bar in the tasting room. The white you see in the paneling is actually the sap wood of the walnut. The top of the tasting room bar is made of oak that Frank also timbered, milled and fabricated. The exterior doors are hand made from oak.

The upstairs gallery area is unique in that Frank renovated the barn from the outside in. That is, from the inside you can still see the original barn siding, posts, and supports.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
