For most of the last century, the Cohodas Farm and later Lakeview Orchards was a showcase farm in the county and in the state. With its close proximity to Lake Michigan and high relative elevations (up to 900 feet above sea level in places), the farm was perfect for fruit production. Given these perfect conditions, a wide variety of fruits were grown since the early 1900s. Most people in the area have some experience picking the cherries, apples, peaches, plums, raspberries and other fruits and vegetables that came from the orchards and fields. In 2005, Cliff Boomer, fruit grower, real estate developer and Founder of Douglas Valley Organic Vineyard Community, began exploring the viability of buying and renovating the farm.

After making the decision to purchase the property, Cliff wasn't sure what to do with it, but the land was so special he knew he had to purcahse it. Based on this decision we set out to develop a new plan to keep the property as a farm while adding components that will enhance economic viability. With the size and history of the farm, adding to its exceptional fruit producing capabilities and natural beauty of the surrounding area, we felt strongly that we could create a truly special place!
