After searching throughout all of California, Richard Ellis and Susan Rivera Ellis purchased their first Paso Robles area land in 2000. Richard wanted to plant a boutique vineyard, it had been his dream for years to grow premium quality grapes and make truly unique wines. Their first vineyard was planted that same year along with the construction of a 2800 square foot wine barn to allow storage for all of the supplies and equipment required in the wine grape growing and wine making environment.

In 2005, with mutual careers in the high tech industry behind them, Richard and Susan decided to expand their operation in the Paso Robles area and they purchased a large established vineyard in San Miguel, turning Richard into a full time farmer and enjoying the challenges of working with nature and the land. Today we grow the following varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Syrah, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Malbec, Petit Sirah, Cab Franc, and Sauvignon Blanc.

Richard describes his hand-crafted premium wines as a work in progress; we're always looking to improve on the quality of the wine through the vineyard and education. Learning from friends and formal education processes. As a winemaker, he wants to create wines, whether they are a varietal or a blend, that takes the best of several varietals that have character and balance. Wine that is as good standing alone or combined with your favorite food.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
