This small urban winery is in the lower level of an old sandstone and brick building located in the downtown Carrousel District of Mansfield, OH. This is a true wine cellar where the tasting room is situated in the midst of a working winery. The exposed stone walls, the oak wine barrels and the rustic surroundings all contribute to the ambiance and relaxing atmosphere.

We have been making wine for more than 15 years. We learned the traditional techniques of winemaking with an emphasis on the importance of fresh grapes and barrel aging by helping Gary’s father-in-law with his homemade wine. After our apprenticeship we decided to venture out on our own and were soon making our wine in a wine cellar that Rick had constructed at his home. Gaining confidence in our winemaking skills we entered our wines in regional wine competitions. The first year we won a consolation award for our label – nothing for our wine. In succeeding years as our wine improved we received silver and gold medals for our wines. In 2008 we were awarded a “Best of Show” award for our 2006 Zinfandel.

In 2008 we decided to turn our hobby into a business and the Cypress Hill Winery was born. Needing to expand and wanting to join the renaissance of downtown Mansfield we decided to locate our winery in the Mansfield Carrousel District. A location was selected and the small urban winery was opened June, 2009. In recognition of the new location we adopted the brand name Cypress Cellars.

The entrance - off an alley behind a row of brick and stone mercantile buildings – can be challenging to locate even for local residents. Visitors who persevere are rewarded by a warm reception and the experience of sampling our excellent wines. Our winery’s tasting room has a seating capacity of 25 with additional limited outdoor seating available.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
